Atomic Habits by James Clear

I must admit that this is the first self-help book I have completed reading. My usual preferences lean towards genres like mythology, psychology, and philosophy, which is why I hadn’t explored self-help before. Nevertheless, reading this book has been an incredibly enjoyable experience. The author delves into real-life scenarios about habits, breaking down the process of habit cultivation into four laws: make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy, and make it satisfying. The book’s well-structured approach provides excellent clarity on how to tackle both positive and negative habits.

James Clear, the author, is not a psychologist but a writer who candidly shares his personal experiences with habits. What sets this book apart from others in the self-help genre, which I’ve attempted to read before but couldn’t finish, is its remarkable clarity. Many self-help books inundate readers with complex psychological terms and numerous concepts that may be hard to grasp without a background in psychology. In contrast, “Atomic Habits” offers an original perspective based on an individual’s fresh attempts and personal experiments with thoughts and attitudes towards habits. The author places emphasis on self-analysis and introspection instead of relying on abstract concepts, and this likely accounts for the book’s immense success, with millions of copies sold.

One of the book’s standout features is the summary provided at the end of each topic, which reinforces the key points. Personally, I feel that I can readily adapt and apply the concepts from this book not only to myself but also to the people around me. The strategies outlined in the book are practical and yield tangible results.

Selecting specific points that I liked the most proves challenging because I genuinely enjoyed every aspect of it. I prefer to leave it to other readers to explore and savor the wisdom of “Atomic Habits.”

Reading this book has ignited my interest in self-help books, and I have already decided on the next book to read and review: “Mastery Manual” by Robin Sharma.
